The Backstretch Bar & Grill
About This Spot
Walking into The Backstretch Bar & Grill in Pontiac is like settling into a well-worn favorite spot, where familiar faces and friendly hellos weave seamlessly into the easy rhythm of a neighborhood gathering place. The hum of quiet conversations and the clink of glasses create a warm backdrop, one that invites you to slow down and feel at home amidst the subtle buzz. It’s unpretentious, a place where time moves at its own comfortable pace rather than rushing along with the outside world.
This is a space that balances the lively with the laid-back—a classic bar & grill where the focus is on genuine moments more than flash. Here, comfort food takes center stage without fanfare, showcasing simple, hearty flavors that pair perfectly with a cold beer or a craft cocktail. Whether it’s a lively Monday taco tradition or the familiar comfort of a well-loved Cuban sandwich, meals arrive with that homemade feel, shaped by a kitchen attuned to the neighborhood’s tastes and rhythms.
The Backstretch’s vibe is amplified by the subtle joys of human interaction. Service feels genuine and attentive, with a warmth that extends beyond just serving plates. It’s the kind of place where your server might know your name before you’ve finished ordering and where there’s room for both animated group celebrations and quieter solo visits. The balance of small-town hospitality and a genuinely tasty menu makes each visit an approachable, unhurried escape from the everyday.
Frequent guests return not only for the evening’s meal but for the atmosphere of connection and community. It’s a spot that welcomes everyone—whether you’re dropping in after a long day, meeting friends to toast the weekend, or gathering with family to share stories over shared platters. Here, flavor and fellowship go hand in hand, giving The Backstretch Bar & Grill its quietly enduring charm in the heart of Pontiac.

I love thin crust, crisp edges and a wide variety of toppings! Here they call that a "Garbage Pizza". It's amazing! My server was a darling and she made me feel welcome, and appreciated. Definitely returning, planning to sample several other offerings. This was a great start, for an introduction.

I was in visiting family, and we decided to go here to have dinner. The food was very good. Everybody was very helpful and polite, and I'm sure in future visits. I will definitely stop in for visit and then maybe a drink. Thank you for your great service and Merry Christmas to the staff.

They did a great job. We did a big group and they were able to quickly serve us and the food tasted great.

If you enjoy fresh jalapenos on your sammiches, the angry cowboy burger is your go to. Currently enjoying this friggin most FABULOUS creation along side fried mushrooms. I was ordering this for a "snack" and intended the burger to be my lunch *tomorrow*. Ah well, no "ragrets".

UPDATE: Had the pizza and raised the overall rating to 5 stars. The pizza was excellent. ORIGINAL POST: Passed on their list of fancy burgers and just had a plain old cheeseburger. Guess what? It was cooked perfectly. Cold beer and the smell of pizza (I am getting pizza next time I am here) makes this a definite stopping place instead of all those fast food joints directly off of the expressway. Will keep it at 4 stars until I try the pizza.

Great little bar & grill with a full menu of options. Salads, burgers, BLTs, all great.
